Depression Doesn’t Discriminate: Even “The Rock” has Struggled
Depression Doesn’t Discriminate: Even “The Rock” has Struggled
Depression doesn’t discriminate, and many of the people we least suspect are in fact struggling.
Dwayne Johnson (“The Rock”)
Dwayne Johnson, better known as “The Rock” has everything going for him: he is one of Hollywood’s highest paid actors, he is super fit, and he is generally regarded as a decent guy by pretty much everyone that knows him.
Few would suspect then that Johnson has also battled depression. “Struggle and pain is real,” said Johnson. He opened up about saving his mother from a suicide attempt when he was 15 years old. “Depression never discriminates,” he tweeted later. “Took me a long time to realize it but the key is to not be afraid to open up. Especially us dudes have a tendency to keep it in. You’re not alone.”
Celebrities and Depression
It doesn’t matter if you have 28 Olympic medals like swimmer Michael Phelps or if you’re one of the most successful writers in the world, like Harry Potter creator J.K. Rowling; you might even be a supermodel like Cara Delevingne.

The more celebrities and public figures open up about depression, the more we as a society understand how common it is, and also how to treat it. If you are suffering from depression, know that you are not alone. Depression is better understood today than ever, and new research is constantly developing new and more effective treatments. For those in Boston, depression treatment options like TMS therapy are available and can be highly effective. Doctors, psychologists, family, and friends are here to help. Together we will create more awareness about depression, and together we will treat it.
The good news is that there is always help available.
